The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust
Rolex Stainless Steel Oyster Perpetual Datejust with Blue Buckley Dial
The story goes like this; 10 years ago, John Buckley a vintage Rolex dealer took to the watch forums. At this time collectors were hot and heavy for the Daytona Patizzi Dial and Paul Newman Daytona Dials. Out of nowhere Buckley professed that dials with painted Roman numeral markers were henceforth to be known as Buckley dials. What started as a mild attempt at humor and self-promotion stuck and these dials are now known as ‘Buckley’ dials. It is almost folklore and certainly a great story. At this time these dials were not liked, at all although they were less common. Slowly over time they became more and more popular and collectors started seeking them out and celebrating exotic ‘Buckley’ dials in a variety of colors. Today outside of The Rolex Sport models, the ‘Buckley’ dial is the only dial that is recognized with a moniker and can be found referenced across the internet, in literature and in auction catalogues.
The Rolex Datejust is a classic and the perfect watch for all occasions. Dress it up, dress it down, wear it all the time, it is built to last and is an essential watch to own and the foundation of a collection. At 36mm in size the datejust is a great watch for daily wear. This Rolex Datejust features a rare and unique blue ‘Buckley’ dial with white roman numeral markers. It has a strong presence (just like Buckley), it is a bit loud, Avant Garde but also has an ‘it’ factor. The uncommon blue ‘Buckley’ dial is fitted on a handmade grey suede leather strap, the perfect challenge to convention, yet it just works.
