Wires Glasses Ltd

Changing how eyewear is both made and worn

Wires Glasses is an independent eyewear brand which aims to change how eyewear is made and worn.

Wires glasses was founded in 2016 by Yair Neuman, a London-based designer. When in need of some sunglasses on holiday, Yair decided to make himself a pair using materials he had on hand, including a single piece of wire. Wires is inspired by both ancient African wire artistry and technological advancements like 3d printing. Yair was joined by co-founders, Lily Cole, model, actor and entrepreneur, and Kwame Ferreira, socially conscious entrepreneur. The first collection - wires 1.0 - was handcrafted in 2017 by a small team of expert craftsmen in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The tradition of wire craft continues for the second collection - wires 2.0 - with wire frames handmade in a family run business in the Italian dolomites, a region with a long history of craftsmanship. We use extruded metal wires for the frames and 3d printing for the lens rims, producing a minuscule amount of waste in comparison to conventional eyewear manufacturers.

The glasses are made from a single piece of stainless steel wire with an invisible screw-less hinge mechanism which pairs with lens rims in a variety of shapes. This modular approach to eyewear through rims 2.0 means that you can change your look without needing to buy a whole new pair of glasses. By creatively using materials and focusing on sustainable design, we’re hoping to extend the lifecycle of eyewear. The new unisex collection sees designs in a range of styles - the avant garde, on trend and futuristic. Wires 2.0 are fitted with Carl Zeiss lenses and are prescription ready.
