Like it or not, people usually have preconceived notions on what it’s like to live a model’s life. Here at Fancy, our mission is to surprise people with all the cool things they’ll discover, and renowned model and blogger Jocelyn Chew is no different. Her humble beginning was paved from an unlikely path — the 23-year-old half-Icelandic, half-Chinese model was originally raised on a farm in Canada.
She began her career at the age of 16, when most teens were just learning how to drive. Since then Chew’s portfolio has taken her around the world earning permanent passport stamps from Singapore, Hong Kong, and Greece, where she eventually landed and settled in New York City.
“I have a bucket list with my number one thing being to voice a character in an animated movie. I recently started making my own animated film from an idea I had while in London last year.”
But modeling isn’t the only thing on her mind. “I have a bucket list with my number one thing being to voice a character in an animated movie" Chew said. While not a traditional side gig for most models, she’s determined to make it happen. “I recently started making my own animated film from an idea I had while in London last year,” Chew explained.
While those initiatives are further down the pipeline, Chew is currently juggling a few other projects like her aptly named lifestyle blog Jet Set Joce and designing a swimsuit collection. Being a blogger these days isn’t as easy as one might imagine; producing meaningful content that aligns with both her interests and her readers is a two-way street. “I always listen to other people and ask what they want to see on my blog, I just want to keep sharing adventures from my life and style,” Chew revealed.
Cultivating an engaged following today requires dedication and truly diversifying your social reach. As Chew has learned, in order to really put yourself out there influencers must embrace social platforms in different ways to really paint a full digital picture of themselves.
“I try to post work and style related content on my Instagram and blog. When it comes to Snapchat, I am a little wilder! I like to post my everyday life, funny and sarcastic things. I definitely show more of my personality on there.”
Jocelyn hopes the one thing that people take away from her adventures in social media is to “just be original, be yourself, and have fun with what you are doing.”
